His accomplishment was slightly overshadowed a short while later when pro-snowboarder Shaun White picked up his latest gold medal along with the first-ever perfect score in SuperPipe

In the two years since I graduated from college, I’ve had a pretty good time being “broke” in New York and drinking “cheap” beer with my friends. But sometimes I remind myself that the beer I’m drinking is not actually cheap, and that furthermore I am not actually broke: if I married someone who made the same salary I make, our household income would be slightly above the national median, which is also true of almost every person I spend my free time with. The truth is that I inherited expensive tastes and moved to an expensive city, and sometimes I get cranky about not being able to buy what I want.
Richard Beck. The whole N+1 article explaining that none of your musical tastes are your own, especially if you are a 20-something urbanite who “identifies” with the sentimentalist nostalgia of The Arcade fire, is worth a read. It articulates so many things about music and taste that I’ve only circled around in my head. (via markee)

FARM FRESH! Just signed up for a CSA box with my roommate Tricia. If you live in Chicago, I went through Irv and Shelly’s Fresh Picks, recommended by Josh. $18 a week for delicious produce! We bought eggs and apples too. I highly recommend it!!! I’ll post a picture of it/what we make with it later this week after we receive our first box :)
